The Punjab Kings' Indian Premier League clash with the Delhi Capitals was called off on Thursday due to technical failure at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.

Just 10.1 overs had been played in Dharamsala before the game was abandoned after three floodlights all suddenly turned off, forcing the players to leave the field of play.

Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh put on a century opening stand in that time, putting the Kings at 122-1 in their first innings.

Singh registered his fourth consecutive score of 50 or more runs in the IPL, with his half-century coming from just 28 deliveries.

The sole wicket came in what proved to be the final ball of the match as Arya (70) was caught by debutant Madhav Tiwari from Thangarasu Natarajan's (1-4) bowling.

And as Shreyas Iyer came to face his first ball, three floodlights cut out inside the stadium, with the match abandoned 11 minutes after it had occurred.

"Due to a power outage in the area, one of the light towers at the HPCA stadium malfunctioned. BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees," an official statement said.

The Kings remain third in the IPL standings, while Delhi stay fifth, two points behind Thursday's opponents.
