Australia have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of their final Test against the British and Irish Lions, with Matt Faessler and Dave Porecki both dropping out of the squad.

The pair sustained injuries in training on Thursday, with Faessler, who played in the first Test, suffering a calf injury, while Porecki, who started the second, has a heel problem.

As such, Brandon Paenga-Amosa comes in for Faessler, being promoted to the bench, while Billy Pollock replaces Porecki among the replacements.

It comes after news that Rob Valetini, Allan Alaalatoa and Harry Potter would also not be involved in Saturday's match in Sydney due to their respective injuries.

Paenga-Amosa has already faced the Lions three times on the tour, representing Western Force, the AUNZ Invitational side and the First Nations & Pasifika XV.

"Brandon joined us yesterday afternoon after a bit of a tough Thursday training session," captain Harry Wilson told reporters.

"It's obviously gutting to lose great players in Porecki and Fez, but we've got a lot of confidence in BPA.

"He's been around this group for quite a long time over the last year, and he's already faced the Lions three times. So, he's got a lot of confidence, and he has fit in very quickly."

Australia are hoping to avoid being on the wrong end of a series whitewash, after they narrowly missed out on levelling the series thanks to the Lions' dramatic late 29-26 win in the second Test.

Taniela Tupou and Dylan Pietsch were among the forced changes due to injury, and Wilson is hopeful the Wallabies can bounce back from last weekend with the help of an assortment of fresh faces.

"What they've given us is fresh legs on the training park, fresh energy, more chatter around the training field. (They've) Just been nice, and they're just raring to go," he said.

"They've had to watch the last two test matches, so they're all very excited at this opportunity, and I've got no doubt they'll take it.

"We just want to keep improving. We want to keep being a better team.

"We need to play an 80-minute game and get the result which I think we deserve for each other."
